The security has been tightened in the city after the assassination of Maulana Haroonul Qasimi, a leader of banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and his gunman in Karachi and in view of the visit of a 20-member Chinese delegation. Police and elite force were patrolling in the city. Police guards were deployed around the hotel where the delegation was staying.

The delegation visited historical places in Multan and met cotton ginners and growers amid tight security.
